A brief Description
between the Super " E " and " G " models
.
The S&S, Super E and Super G represent the
next generation of gas carburetors designed by S&S
specifically for Harley-Davidson Big Twin and Sportster engines.
The Super E has a 1-7/8 " ( 47.6mm ) throat at the
butterfly and is identified by an " E " cast into the
throttle linkage side of the carb body below the cast in wording
"S&S SUPER." The Super G has a 2-1/16"
( 52.3mm ) throat at the butterfly and is identified by a
"G" cast into the carb body. |

Outside oil lines that feed heads on Knuckles and 1963-'65 Pans
must be re-fabricated.
** Does not fit engines equipped with vertical
magneto.
*** Shovelhead engines equipped with .075" longer
than stock cylinders in chassis with five gallon gas tanks
require additional air cleaner cover to gas tank clearance. Kits
#11-0415, #11-0416, #11-0417, #11-0418, #11-0435, #11-0436,
#11-0437, and #11-0438 include an air cleaner cover clearanced
to fit these engines.
**** Some mounting hardware is not included with these kits. Pan
owners must order bracket #16-0096 and screw #50-0163, 1966 to
1982 Shovel owners must order bracket #17-0392, 1983 to 1984
Shovel owners must order bracket #16-0471, 1979 to 1984 Shovel
owners must order crankcase vent fittings #50-8110, #50-8111,
#17-0113 and 1979 to 1985 Sportster owners must also order
crankcase vent fittings #50-8110, 50-8111, #170113. |

Please read the following:
SPECIAL
DESIGN FEATURES:
-
The
Super E and Super G are butterfly type carbs with fully adjustable
idle mixture screws and changeable midrange and high speed jets. The
idle mixture screw, in particular, has been repositioned and angled
for greater accessibility and adjusting ease. Even with five gallon
gas tanks adjustments are not a problem.
-
A
new feature of the E and G is an adjustable accelerator pump that
is designed to provide instant throttle response at any rpm. With
the ejector nozzle located in line with and between the main
discharge tube and the throttle butterfly, air flow through the
carb throat remains undisturbed. The fuel outlet orifice is angled
toward the throttle butterfly pivot point for better fuel atomization
before it enters the manifold intake runners. Off idle and low rpm
hesitations are a thing of the past.
-
The
enrichment device used for starting in earlier version Supers is
also employed in the E and G but with some refinements.
Redesigned, it is located next to the air cleaner in a
convenient location where a variable position lever, attached to
the air cleaner backplate, is used for starting. By simply
adjusting the lever to a prescribed position, starting and
warm-ups are made easy and fool proof. Effective on any
displacement engine regardless of performance changes and
atmospheric conditions.
-
A
throttle spool assembly designed for later style two cable
pull open - pull closed throttle assemblies instead of a
traditional throttle arm has been added to aid installation. (See
IMPORTANT NOTES) Throttle movement is safe and positive.
-
Fuel
entering the bowl is directed through a new formed fuel line
with a 90' bend. Fuel line routing can be made more direct.
-
The
traditional S&S design teardrop shaped air cleaner
with air directional cone and air horn style radiused
entryway has been redesigned to help reduce carburetor
assembly installed length, to clear five gallon gas tanks
and to increase overall air flow characteristics. The
18.8% more filtering area combined with other carburetor
design changes make 14.1 % more air flow through the E and
39.3% more through the G than the S&S Super B carb.
Neater installation. Better air flow. Improved
performance.
-
The
S&S Super E and G carbs are approximately 1 -7/16
" shorter than S&S Super Bs and Ds. This
feature combined with the redesigned teardrop air
cleaner makes the overall installation length of the
S&S "SHORTY" the same as stock.
-
The
S&S Super E and G carbs hold patent #5,128,071
that covers thirteen specific design elements.
IMPORTANT
NOTES
-
Two
Cable Throttle Required -
S&S Super E and G carburetors require the
use of a two cable, pull
open - pull closed throttle assembly. Any chassis
including 1980 and
earlier stock H-D models equipped with a single
cable throttle mechanism requires conversion to a
two cable, pull open - pull closed type. S&S
offers high quality two cable throttle assemblies
for this purpose. Stock models from 1981 to
present have a two cable throttle and should not
require changing. Earlier engines in this group come
equipped with a butterfly type carburetor and
existing stock cable fittings can simply be
"plugged in" to the S&S E or G
throttle linkage. Later models fitted with a
constant velocity (CV) carb require different
throttle cables, so the stock cables must be
changed. As a rule all models except FLHTs, FLTCs,
FLHTCs and Ultras usually require replacement cables
about 38" long. On FLHTs,
FLTCs, FLHTCs and Ultras or chassis with fairings
and/or custom handlebars longer cables must be used.
S&S offers 32", 35", 38",
44" and 48" long
cables to cover all applications. (See Throttle
Assemblies section of this catalog for more
information)
-
Cruise
Control -
Installation on engines equipped with cruise
control is not recommended as there is no
provision for the cruise control mechanism on the
Super E&G throttle linkage.
-
Recommended
for Racing Only This
carburetor is not legal for use in California on
motor vehicles operated on public highways or in
other states where similar pollution laws may
apply. The user shall determine the suitability
of the product for his or her use and shall
assume all risk and liability in connection
therewith.
-
Polishing
and Chrome Plating the Carburetor -
S&S does not recommend polishing and
chrome plating the Super E or G carburetor
Proper preparation to achieve a good finish
requires polishing using buffing compounds.
The polishing and plating processes and the
materials used invariably plug air and/or fuel
passageways and feed holes and alter operating
tolerances in critical areas regardless of the
precautions taken.
